Spring Trophy

“Nice Matters Award is for those bloggers who are nice people; good blog friends and those who inspire good feelings and inspiration. Also for those who are a positive influence on our blogging world.”

*****
I just received this bouquet from spillay and I am touched by her thoughtful gesture. Thanks to you for this award, spillay.

Now it’s my turn to give away this award, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who stop by on a daily basis and leave your mark from time to time. You are truly my inspiration and I am so glad for this virtual relationship we share electronically. Please take a moment to check out the following list of blogging friends whom I have met over the course of time since I first started this blog, each one truly deserves an award and I would like to pass this onto each one of you. All of you have encouraged and inspired me in your own special ways. Lately I haven't been able to come around and say hello, but I haven't forgotten you. Life has been busy and I am trying to free myself for April, the poetry month. Look forward to seeing more of you in April. In the meantime, be happy and keep blogging.

Love Lots,
UL

Assumptions

unasked question:
like a broken glass-shard
tough token to mend

imagined answer:
like nightmare in real
unpredictable trial

A Kind of Flow

buzzing thoughts:
words sprout wings
poetry in flight.

****

once i wanted to be bright
i decided to do it just right
i picked up a fun hobby
writing against the snobby
sure had people bolt upright.

Spring

her chin held high:
tempting, luring, tickling -
‘touch-me-not’ air.

blooms dance,
at grasping distance:
eyelashes flutter.

fresh innocence:
weaving dreams unforeseen
brimming confidence.

Gaia

waking up i take your dust
and smear on my forehead
a sign of soulful respect
or so i would like to think-
not enough, yes I know:
never enough for all that you
endure and sustain through time,
the burden you carry so willingly
without complain, with relish
deserves far more than mere
acknowledgement every morn -
yet remembrance and respect
even for a moment, is the least
i can do for you Mother, who
give, give and only give
expecting no return.
*****
There's a two line prayer in sanskrit that Hindus chant every morn as soon as one wakes up.
It is a sign of acknowledgement to Mother Earth who carries us in her arms without
question or complain, assuming our burdens as her own. It is a request for her forgiveness, if we unknowingly cause her harm and a daily renewal of promise to treat her with respect as long as we live.
*****
In response to the prompt from Read Write Poem. I would also like to submit this to Milou at her blog on World Poetry Day and Earth.

Carefree

hand-in-hand
we walked down the vale
and climbed on the fence
across from the forlorn rail track:
to simper and wave or throw a flying-kiss
at the passengers on the train
that whiz by every noon -
chugging a melody,
tripping our soul.

Did I mention?

i have an allergy,
drop-down-dead variety?
nay - but worse really.

i go through days
without many sways
then succumb, and pays

i indulge
from time to time
give in
or go insane

..then suffer..

i break out in rashes
when it's more than just dashes
my poor skin crashes

ugly and itchy
painful and scratchy
scary and leachy

but tell me –
dear one,
tell me -
is anything worse?

..than a chocolate allergy..

****

It is almost late for submitting to this prompt at SS but couldn't resist as there were so many to choose from. What stood out for me was the 'Chocolate'. What I couldn’t have, but what I could dream about and write pages on. Yes, I have a coco allergy, bummer innit? Yeah, you know where you can take those sympathies. As a kid, I thought I was most unfortunate to be born and not be able to savor what I considered then, well, what I still consider as the 'heaven on earth' feeling. My doctor advised my parents to keep me away from those chocolate chips and likes. I suffered. No suffering could be worse surely. Who could resist chocolates? With age the allergy did not disappear but decreased. I could indulge in small quantities, very tiny amounts of chocolate. But the suffering never ceased. Will it ever? I drool at the thought of chocolate to this very day.

Reflections

gazing, searching, hoping
i look for me in the ripples –
in the mirror, in the eyes
always outside, not inside.

the face reflected unknown
the emotions felt unreal
my past appears a mirage
hazy and smoky, surreal

where did the years go?
who is this stranger?
what became of me?
will my past catch up?
how can i escape?
empty questions,
no answers

“look deeply, turn inward
clean the dirt from mind-mirrored
the me you lost can be found”
voice this wise, i ignored
fool that i was, searched outward

gazing, searching, hoping
i look for me in the ripples –
in the mirror, in the eyes
but always outside, not inside.

*****

In response to the prompt from TOP,
'surreal', I think this fits last weeks
prompt on 'mirrors and smokes' too.

Broken

best friends for life
turn worst of enemies
story of life

breaking rules
tangled in treachery –
daring egos

one dead, the other jailed
judge understood-
simple theory, money involved

self-created prisoners
separated beyond lifetimes
forever regrets

*****
In response to the prompt from 3WW.
A couple of lines rewritten and the poem reordered.
Concept remains the same. Money equates to mess in
most cases.

Roots

My birth, your death
marked this bond,
imaginary yet real-
between you and me.

Planted in memory, yours-
raised with reverence
worshipped in kindness
embraced with love
you live on through me.

My home, your family
your home, my family
one became the other
I know not when-
maybe it is the you in me.

Generations have flown
I am tall and over grown
here I remain for all times
watching over, protecting
what’s yours, now mine.
*****
This is in response to the prompt on RWP, I am considering this a draft, too many thoughts to continue this further and do a re-write. But thought would submit anyway. In my ancestral home there are huge mango trees/jackfruit trees that were planted eons ago in memory of every person who passed away, this poem revolves around such trees. Note that the picture comes from Wiki, it is not my own.

Encircling

mine and yours
souls perfectly so -
new circle begins

from you to me
and me to you
our life circles

half my faith
half of yours
circle completes

eternal bonds
across lifetimes
circle sustains

Premonition

Bone chilling shivers seep through my being. My numb heart thuds and halts with a rhythm. The apartment looks familiar, terrifyingly so. The five ‘o’ clock shadows cast by the sun makes me delirious and faint with fear. I am hesitant to insert the key and unlock the horrors that lie within. Through the hazy clouds that clutter my intellect, I reach inward to uncover the incident that began as a dream. Only a dream! One that turns bloody and horrible within a matter of few minutes! One that features this very place whose keys dangle from my almost lifeless fingers! Unlike the dream, I have a choice here, I don’t have to walk in through that door and awaken the sleeping monster. It’s best to turn around and walk away. As this wild thought cross my mind, the door opens and he greets me evilly.
“What took you so long? I have been waiting. Are you ready for the grand tour?”
Did I really have a choice? I walk in.

Sinking

Playing destiny:
Recipe for disaster
Rising doom!

It started as a mere experiment, a cool game to play with his pals. The winnings made him richer. Fortune and luck were on his side. He won every single time and collected his dues. The confidence in his abilities made him take major risks. He won some more. Pride mixed in, he was a winner, and nothing could stop him now.

He attributed his success to his intelligence, who could better him? The very thought was his first mistake, his only one. Destiny could and would stop him. The tides were turning without his knowledge. Gambling became an addiction, he lost his head. Rising from the self-created pit he had dug for himself seemed just out of reach. He sunk himself in debt to 'just win once more'. He sold his soul to the devil to win ‘just once more’.

What started off as a fun experiment turned into self-destruction of the worst kind, it is best not to play with destiny don’t you think?

My Year

I took a fun quiz I found at spillay's blog, "what year do I belong in?", well, I am really ancient since it says....

You Belong in 1957

You're fun loving, romantic, and more than a little innocent. See you at the drive in!

Withdrawal Symptoms

Suck me in, bury the pain
Inhale me, don’t go insane
Just once, do not refrain
Let me solve your complain

Waiting here, yours to gain
I promise to heal the brain
Only once, do not restrain
Let me solve your complain

Pick me up, let me explain
Light me up, experience again
Believe me, do not disdain
Let me solve your complain

Yours to take, and regain
Eternal lovers, we remain
“Not just a butt”, think again
Let me solve your complain

Sidewalk Strings

music from the sidewalk-
pulled at my heartstrings
I hesitated twice, longing to stop
and then I did, rest is history

'Late for work, yet again!'

Jealousy

snug under the layers
thoughts dirty green
boggle the mind, while
slithering like the snake

warning racket,
causing havoc,
within!

Change

Stuck in the past?
"Move with the present",
Or time walks away!

Falling leaves, colorful:
Scribble states, "seasons change"
Springing greens, inevitable!

Drift like the clouds:
"Time waits for no man or beast",
Constant a myth!

Blood or Water

blood thicker than water, they say
flowing water seems better, I say
families stick together, they say
gluing together will weather, I say

distance makes the heart grow fonder,
love gets lousy when we live closer!
