Carefree

hand-in-hand
we walked down the vale
and climbed on the fence
across from the forlorn rail track:
to simper and wave or throw a flying-kiss
at the passengers on the train
that whiz by every noon -
chugging a melody,
tripping our soul.

You've conjured beautiful images here and made me want to travel by train also. We have a train station here in town but, you would have to travel at night. I would want to travel by day. That way you could see everything passing by your window. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day tomorrow.

Ah, this is a lovely memory. Trains were always so exciting - freedom on a track. Nice post!

Our souls do trip when passengers wiz past us. I wonder where they're going, what link of lives they have. Sometimes it bothers me that I'll never know...

I've travelled in a train with a compartment many times. Usually it was second class. The beds fold down at night, with three bunks on one side, three on the other. It was kind of weird to be sleeping near strangers, but I was young, and took it in stride.

Once I had my own private compartment. I felt so spoiled!

I agree with everyone, trains are just amazing. The are a fabulous way to get around Europe but they get a little dodgy when you use them in my part of the world. Great job!

There is something romantic to me about trains. I picture it twisting thru a sleepy, perfect countryside. You capture it well.
