brave face crumbles
tears rain unheeded
her mask unmasked:
the shower turns on
her soul-clenching sobs,
her soul-clenching sobs,
merges with the whoosh
weak,gut-shaking frame
hides behind the steam
stranded within a maze
stranded within a maze
with no key for escape
she continues her quest
for the lost highway
her fear and self-doubts
her fear and self-doubts
rival, to pull thoughts
in opposite directions:
making victory impossible
and hence the unmasking -
and hence the unmasking -
hiding from the world
and letting go, to fight
her own personal demons
helps to mask herself
helps to mask herself
as she turns off water
and step out, to face
the world one more day.

An interesting study of inner tensions!
Indeed, highways are hard to find sometimes and even harder to keep on.

How do you do it? Give a hit everytime:)
it kept one intrigued, waiting to see how it'd end... Once again exemplorary literary piece...
very nicely brought out..//to fight
her own personal demons// if only demons could be replaced by dreams in real life, perhaps life would take an upbeat path UL
very nice attempt

Something about running water really does create a haven and a place to drop your barriers. Well done UL.
UL its been a long long time, need to catch up with rest of your posts...
I just love the ending..most of times I see myself doing it in shower..you know think about something very hard, and at the end of it, just leave the thought there, and just get on with the day.
The highway of our emotions find themselves eventually.
Great poem.
Very thought provoking .
Really liked "Her mask unmask/the shower turns on" ...and then when she steps out of the shower the mask is put on again ... very vivid and so true to life .
Great way to use both the prompts.
a good cry in the shower does a body & soul lots of good.
To be lost in a maze is a very unsettling experience--much like letting go of a mask and a mask and a mask...

Once I realized this is a daily occurence, just like the morning shower, it felt like an anxiety attack. What pain to suffer each day. "Without a key" is powerful for me. I hope she is able to find that.
Oh I feel this.......
You know I feel this with a passion!
thank goodness for showers to cover the sounds of confusion and uncover the masks. it's so easy to get lost! Nice post, nice post!!
excellent ... don't think i've ever come across the battle hidden in the shower expressed so beautifully...
I really love this Ul, I can so relate to it. The shower has always been my place to think, regret, grieve, figure things out. beautiful post.
UL,
Lots of gut here girl, way to let it out.
I like to unmask when I run.

I do it in the bath!! Great use of the prompt. For the first time in ages I was stuck on this one.
and the truth in this is that we never know how many people we deal with on a daily basis that are caught up in this exact tug of war.....
